Biography

Classical pianist who explores new approaches to making classical music more accessible to audiences

  ̌

  • I received my Master's degree in concert performance (class of Prof. Konstantin Lifschitz) and pedagogy (class of Prof. Diana Binder) at the Lucerne High School of Music (Switzerland). Before that, I completed a four‑year Bachelor’s program at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria) with Prof. Markus Schirmer, and spent a year in Vienna at the University of Music and Performing Arts in the program for exceptionally gifted young people (class of Prof. Vladimir Kharin).

I was born in Riga (Latvia), where my musical path began. I started lessons at the age of four with a private teacher and, a year later, was admitted to the Riga Musical Emil Dārziņš School for gifted children, where I studied for eleven consecutive years. I completed my general secondary education at a private school in Riga.

  • Since 2004 I have performed across Europe, both as a soloist and with symphony orchestras. From 2007 to 2017 I won national and international competitions and received special prizes for eminent style, virtuosity, and interpretations of J. S. Bach.

Between 2006 and 2009 I studied composition in Riga and, in 2007, won first prize at the International Competition of Young Composers in Latvia.

I have participated in and won several festivals, including the Académie de Musique de Lausanne (2015), the International Summer Academy of the MDW in Payerbach‑Reichenau (2016), and the International Academy and Competition Pianale in Germany (2021).

Masterclasses with renowned pianists and professors were integral to my training. I received lessons from Paul Badura‑Skoda, Dmitry Bashkirov, Vladimir Krainev, Bruno Canino, Oleg Maisenberg, Dina Yoffe, Eldar Nebolsin, Muza Rubackite, Sofia Gulyiak, and Boris Berman.

While living in Austria and Switzerland, I received support from several organizations, including Rudolf Heydner‑Stiftung (2014), Fürst Dietrichstein’sche Stiftung (2019), Rotary Club Graz Süd (2020), Stiftung Lyra (2020), and Rosa Steffen‑Mörgeli‑Stiftung (2021).

  • Since 2018 I have curated thematic concerts for diverse audiences, including the Austrian Rotary Society, nursing homes, and schools.

In April 2020 I became an artist at the Austrian festival Styriarte and led the world premiere of Corona Meditation by Austrian composer Gerd Kühr, performed online by more than 70 pianists worldwide. In June 2020 I opened their first post‑quarantine live series with ten performances of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in four days.

In December 2020 I launched the educational YouTube channel h2hmusic, where I discuss the specifics of the music profession and curious facts from the field of music.

Since 2022 I have collaborated with Swiss artist Bernhard Moser on annual audio‑visual concerts.

  • My solo repertoire focuses on classical works from the 18th to the first half of the 20th century. I also perform in duo with my brother, violinist Jevgēnijs Čepoveckis, in chamber string and wind ensembles, and on church organ.

My beloved composers, to name a few, are Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach, Richard Wagner, and Alexander Scriabin. I am drawn to the performing style of the Golden Age of piano (late 19th to mid‑20th century).

Further musical interests include conducting, arranging, the art of counterpoint, and historical keyboard instruments.
